Real People

"A person's a person
no matter how small."
- Horton Hears a Who

God knew and loved your baby long before you!

Psalm 139:13-16
For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.

Biology 101:
From conception every single cell in our bodies contains our DNA - the blueprints of life.

These miraculous plans have already determined,
in many respects, who this baby will be.
If we could only read them properly
(scientists are already able to determine quite a lot)
we would know right from conception:

  • Is this a boy or girl?
  • What colour hair and eyes does this baby have?
  • How tall is this baby?
  • Is he allergic to peanuts?
  • Is she color blind?
  • Does he have eyebrows just like his Dad?
  • Does she have Great Aunt Jane's pug nose?...

  • With the advent of medical technology like ultrasound,
doctors are now able to look into the womb.

What they have found is that these amazing little people
are a lot more like you and I than you might think.

      Bible story about the unborn!

At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea,  where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth.   When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.   In a loud voice she exclaimed: "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear!  But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?   As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.   Blessed is she who has believed that what the Lord has said to her will be accomplished!" Luke 1:39-43

In this passage the Bible refers to 2 unborn babies
      - John the Baptist (at the time about 3 months gestation)
and Jesus himself (conceived only days before).

Both babies are not only main characters in this story, but are clearly people - significant and meaningful in their own right.

The baby Mary carried (only days old) is referred to
as "the child" and "my Lord".

Baby John, we see, had a spiritual sensitivity
      - he recognized the presence of the Lord Jesus and lept for joy.
